Destinity Potato went through it all. And only God (obviously, for God I mean Chtulhu) knows what ''all'' really mean. A debut ready from a couple of years that have never seen light. Teasers here and there. And then, one of the two vocalists leaves the band. Another one takes her place. Arrives the contract with Century Media and things seems to get right..but no. The singer that previously had replaced the first one, she leaves too. The contract with Century Media is screwed up. Enough! At this point, the Belgrade's guys are going mad and so it comes a definitive decision: there will be only one singer, tracks will be rearranged for a single voice and the album will be published in an indipendent way. LUN, the so hard demanding debut album, flows in the djent current, standing out of the mass thanks to the massive use of pop vocals, for the adaptation of traditional serbian music's sonorities and, last but not least, for a guitar work that (for the genre) verges perfection. The class of David Micic (guitarist, producer and mind of the band) is axiomatic. Since the first seconds we can see how Micic devoured formations like Dream Theater, Strappig Young Lad, Nu Metal bands endlessly, pop artists and also the ones from his own nation. Everything is mixed up in a elaborate work of application on production, arrangments and executions that, as said before, are quite as perfect for the proposed genre. By the way, I really suggest trying to put your hands on the 3 soloist Micic's Eps (Bilo I,II and III), about those I will anticipate nothing but the enormous potential of this young 24 years old multi-instrumentalist who's really worth to follow.
On the mic, the singer Aleksandra is SEXY. It's hard to say why. Listen to her! She gots the capacities that many metal singers dream of and, above that, her voiceprint is so senxual and hot, also if there are some growls spots that could make die of envy a Death Metal vocalist.
In LUN there's everything, from the most titanic groove (the intro of ''Addict'' is scary), to the dreaming melodies and above all the absolute desire to experiment in a genre that is becoming day after day more repetitive and blank. Again it's hard to comprehend the blindess of the record labels that easily throw away hopeful bands that, without a little support, remain casted in the shadows for years like the DPs. Ultimately it can be said that ''LUN'' is the sexy album of the year and I don't know for you, but for me certainly is, then say what you want: you can call it ''Sexy Metal'', ''Pop Metal'' or ''Pop Djent'', the fact remains that Destiny Potato gave Djent a good freshen, re-making it with class, attributes and sensuality. Arriva il contratto con la Century Media e le cose sembrano raddrizzarsi…ma invece no. La cantante che aveva preso il posto della prima vocalist, lascia. Il contratto con la Century Media, va a puttane. E basta oh! A questo punto, ai giovani ragazzi di Belgrado, iniziano un po a girare le palle e quindi si decide definitivamente: la cantante resterà una sola, i brani saranno riarrangiati per una sola voce, e l’album uscirà in maniera indipendente.
“LUN”, il debut album tanto sudato, si riversa nel filone djent distinguendosi però
dalla massa per un uso massiccio di vocals dallo stampo puramente pop, dall utilizzo
di sonorità della musica tradizionale serba e, da un guitar work che (per il
genere) rasenta la perfezione. La classe di David Micic(chitarrista,produttore
e mente della band )è indiscutibile. Si nota fin da subito che Micic ha
divorato band come Dream Theater, Strapping Young Lad,band nu metal a non
finire, artisti pop e anche musicisti tradizionali della sua nazione. Il tutto
è riversato in un lavoro certosino di cura della produzione, degli
arrangiamenti e delle esecuzioni che, come già detto, sono quasi perfetti per il
genere musicale proposto. A tal proposito, vi consiglio di recuperare a tutt i
cost i 3 Ep solisti di Micic(Bilo I,II e III), dei quali non vi descrivo niente
se non l’elevatissima potenzialità di questo giovane polistrumentista
ventiquattrenne da seguire
obbligatoriamente.
Al microfono, la cantante Aleksandra è SEXY. Difficile descrivere il motivo. Ascoltate!Oltre alla bravura che molte vocalist metal si sognano, la sua timbrica è sensualissima e calda anche se non mancano piccoli sprazzi growl che fanno invidia ai più dotati cantanti Death Metal.
In Lun c’è tutto, dal groove più poderoso (l’intro di “Addict” è spaventoso), alle melodie più sognanti e, cosa più importante, la più assoluta voglia di sperimentare in un genere che sta diventando sempre più spaventosamente scialbo e ripetitvo. E ancora una volta non si capisce la cecità delle case discografiche che liquidano senza troppi complimente band promettenti che, senza un piccolo supporto, restando in panne e nell’ombra per anni come nel caso dei DP. In definitiva si potrebbe dire che “LUN” è l’album sexy dell’anno e non so per voi ma per me lo è di sicuro,poi fate come volete: potete chiamarlo “Sexy Metal”,”Pop Metal” o “Pop Djent” fatto sta che i Destiny Potato hanno dato una rinfrescata al djent, rinfarcendolo di classe,carattere e di sensualità.Ed ora scusate..inspiegabilmente m’è venuta voglia di patata.
