Crust, Hardcore, Doom, Black Metal. YAITW. The band from North Carolina reach the goal, musically speaking, in about four years. It is hard to think about a complete, valid, dinamic, aggressive, controversial and exciting album such as "When Life comes to Death". There is everything, and by "everything", I mean everything. Each song has its own soul, a main riff, a story to tell and a goal to achieve. Every chapter of the album is born to develop itself, come to an end, and keep the album going on leaving the rest of the job to the next track. In the beginning we find a mix of Crust and Black Metal which ends with "Self Inflicted" and its melodies, stopped with force by an atmospheric movement, with arpeggios and cleaned from the gain. Then, after all this, we find the "grooviest" part of the CD with "Loved and Unwanted" and "We Are Nothing" that both have more scanned and martial rhytms, almost "doomy", some breakdowns, stop 'n' go and hypnotic refrains. Loaded the biggest hit, follows a good couple. "Final Dose" is with no doubts the fastet track on the album, simple and direct. Follows "Weep in my Dust" that adds a touch of Crust.
With "Take my Hand" we enter in the album's last part, where the rhytm slows together with the gain. This is with no doubts the most interesting and challenging where it is shown a different music conception, different from the one we heard before, which make us feel a lot of new aspects and amazes. Also, we find that whoever wrote these song, a single or more people, has an extraordinary mind, because songs like "Be my Blood" and "Shadow of Murder" could be written only by great minds.
The final track "Embrace Extinction" is the best composition I heard in 2014. You can't technically explain it. Its essence is trascended, is to feel something that others can't hear and to accept that whatever you will try to compose in this genre, there will be a band in North Carolina which simply stand over everything. They are steps before you. It is superior, and for this reason you can't explain this work in a logical and rational way. I think it is not possible to write something better than this, but next album will tell us. [Translated by Lorenzo Naturale]
Crust, Hardcore, Doom, Black Metal. YAITW. La band del Nord Carolina riesce in una completa maturazione musicale in un periodo di circa 4 anni. Viene difficile pensare un album più completo, valido, esaltante, controverso, dinamico ed aggressivo di "When Life Comes To Death". C'è tutto, e per tutto intendo proprio tutto. Ogni canzoni ha una propria anima, un proprio main riff portante, una propria storia ed un compito da assolvere. Ogni capitolo dell'album nasce e si sviluppa per poi concludersi e lasciare il testimone ad un'altro. Nel trittico iniziale troviamo una amalgama bollente di Crust e Black Metal che si conclude con "Self Inflicted" e le sue melodie alienanti stoppate con forza da un momento più atmosferico, arpeggiato e ripulito da ogni forma di Gain. Tutto per fare spazio a la parte più groovy del cd con" Loved And Unwanted" e "We Are Nothing" che vivono di ritmi più scanditi e marziali, quasi doomy, qualche breakdown, stop 'n' go riuscito e refrain ipnotici. Caricato il colpo da 90 arriva il duo più scappa-ossa del cd. "Final Dose" è senza dubbio la traccia più veloce ed efferata del cd con pochissime dinamiche e poco da dire, far male l'unica ragione. Segue "Weep In My Dust" che rincara la dose con un pizzico di Crust in più a discapito del Black Metal.
Con "Take My Hand" si entra nel terzo ed ultimo filone del cd dove i ritmi scendono ed anche il gain viene smorzato per dare attimi di respiro. Senza dubbio è la parte più interessante ed impegnativa dove si affronta una concezione della musica assai distante da quella intrapresa prima mostrando una poliedricità unica e una capacità di cogliere diversi aspetti di essa che lascia esterrefatti, probabilmente, non lo so, saranno parti scritte da persone diverse, se fosse il contrario, che un'unica mente ha partorito sia la demonica "Be My Blood" che "Shadow Of Murder" allora qui siamo difronte a menti fuori dall'ordinario con cui non puoi proprio competere. Non c'è risposta. La conclusiva "Embrace Extinction" è la composizione migliore che abbia ascoltato in questo 2014. Non si può semplicemente spiegare e dire che l'arpeggio x, la parte y ed il piano, e tutte queste puttanate. L'ispirazione è qualcosa di trascendentale, è sentire qualcosa che gli altri non sentono, ed in questo caso devi solo arrenderti all'evidenza che per quanto tu possa tentare di fare questo genere c'è una band nel Nord Carolina che è al di sopra di tutto. E' su un gradino evolutivo più alto. Per questo non puoi commentare in modo logico e razionale questo lavoro tentando di trovare spiegazioni logiche a tale superiorità. E'. E non si può scrivere di meglio. Salvo smentita al prossimo cd.
