"My Torturer" e "Let The Stillborn Come To Me" sono i due missili terra-aria del cd. La prima viaggia in generale ad una velocità disarmante mettendo in mostra l'inferno più totale nelle parti in blast beats. La seconda, opener del cd, racchiude quello che fu il Death Metal almeno una decade fa con una serie di riff velocissimi e cavalcate infernali, il classico groove a cavallo tra Autopsy e Dismember.
Io più che descrivere l'ascolto non posso fare, aspetterete quindi un giudizio di valore rispetto questa prova ma è difficile avere una posizione netta dinanzi questo cd. Seppure Nick Holmes non sia il mio cantante Death Metal preferito riconosco che il tono maligno e terrificante che da in molti parti rende ancora più personale il sound degli svedesi ma è anche vero che quello che fece Tagtgren in Nightmares Made Flesh deve ancora trovare un pari. Lo stesso Akerfledt non seppe replicare alla prestazione del leader degli Hypocrisy in The Fathomless Mastery. E' un gruppo essenzialmente singer-centrico perchè le prove nel corso degli anni del duo Renske-Nystrom sono fuori da qualunque discussione. La perfezione più totale ogni volta. Quindi a decidere il vostro cd preferito dei Bloodbath sarà il cantante presente in esso. E la mia scelta risulta evidente, riconoscendo comunque tutti i meriti anche questa volta non a chi fa death metal ma a chi E' IL DEATH METAL. Per sempre.
I made a lot of difficult choices, and I'm about to add another one to the count. Bloodbath are to me a piece of youth: I used to listen "Breeding Death" 10 times a day. When I was sixteen I used to play "Nightmare made Flesh" on the stereo as soon as my mother was leaving home. I have to say, reviewing their last CD has a strange effect on me. This "Grand Morbid Funeral" sounds completely different from the others, and that is because of the presence of Nich Holmes, which had both good and bad impact. Leaving out some doomy influences, musically, this album shows the "musical path" the band walked during all its journey: from the punky attitude of "Mental Abortion" to the slayeran "Beyond Cremation". Impressive the musical Doom experiment in "Church of Vastitas" and in the monolithic title track; "Unite in Pain" contrariwise represent what was "Outnumbering the Day" in "Nightmares Made Flesh" with a powerful chorus and "stop 'n' go" that make you headbang at every passage.

I can't do much more than describing the album, so you'll expect a good grade but it's hard to make the call. Nick Holmes is not my favourite Death Metal singer, though I have to admit that he's malificent and terrifying tone gives the swedish band something personal, but it is also true that we still have to find someone who can reach the level of what Tagrgren did in "Nightmares Made Flesh". Akerfledt himself couldn't do what Hypocrisy's leader did in "The Fathomless Mastery". Bloodbath are a band that focus on the singer: the duet Renske-Nystrom is with no doubt the top. Perfection at its finest. So, when you'll be deciding your favourite Bloodbath's album, remember that your choice will be based on the singer's voice. And mine is evident, with all the respect to the good work made by not to those that play death metal, but to those who ARE Death Metal itselfs.
