Tired of the same Devourments' slam? Tired of album where the only difference are the pig squeals that last more? Well, me too. But, luckly, here come again the "7th Target", from Russia with love. Not even the time to realize the they were working on new stuff that suddenly, a year after "Psy Slam Damage" they release this 3rd full-lenght, "0.00 Apocalypse". I listened again and again "Psy Slam Damage" and "Fast-Slow Demolition" (their first album), I geared up and I found out that this new release is ACTUALLY an apocalypse.
First thing you'll notice is the guitars' sound: fresh 'n' clean, solid and built-up. This time is filled with mediums instead of basses and the sound results similar to bands like Abominale Putridity and Visceral Disgorge instead ofother band such as Gttural Slug and Kraanium. If this gives these guys a point must be judge by you; it is indeed a good thing to include more influences in their personal sound. Same thing for the drums: they got riformed, but they still have that "smash every fucking thing down" sound. When I listened to "Fast-Slow Demolition" I ironically called them "The Tony Danza of experimental slam", while listening to "Psy Slam Damage" I called them "ordinary-cunfusionary guys" but now, in this "0.00 Apocalypse" these three russian guys really improved themselves. They made a very good album, with mathcore influences thanks to the guitarist, Aleksey (who got out from the band as they released this album), but that are well-hidden by slam and sperimental technical brutal. It would be also impossible to talk about the tracks: every song has its why, its glory, its "smash everything down" moment and its "catchy" moment.
But, I really have to tell you about "Technofetishist" and "Cyborg Kombat. First one is the album's best track, the 2nd one has a special intro: it is a futuristic super-nerd intro that makes you euphoric even if you haven't finished to listen to the album. But what does really makes this band so special?
Easy. This is a group with a pure and special beauty, a rare band that took what's good in Slam, mixed it with modern stuff, added that sperimental side which is typical of these russians guys, using artifical harmonics, tempo changes and static gutturals. The singing is the only weak point: not because Konstantin is not good, but because it is the only element which ties the group to the genre's past.
(Mind that this improvement took place in only 3 years.)
To say that these boys achieved their final goal is not possibile; this "0.00 Apocalypse" totally satisfied me, so I think they'll have their opportunity. Surely they are plenty of ideas, just listen to "5-94" to understand what I'm saying, I still can't believe that a human wrote that.
So, get a cover! because these "Innovative Psychotropic Brutal Death" aliens (Don't ask me what the hell is that, I got it from their official Facebook page) are back, ready to smash radiocative brains that belong to futuristic cyborg-zombies! [Translated by Lorenzo Naturale]
Siete stufi del solito slam di madre Devourment? Siete stufi di sentire album piatti dove l'unica cosa che differenzia i brani sono pig squeals più longevi? Bene, pure io.
Ma per fortuna dalla Russia con veemenza ecco tornare i 7 H. Target.
Neanche il tempo di aspettarli o di aver sentito dire che erano al lavoro per del nuovo materiale, che appena un anno dopo "Psy Slam Damage", riappaiono dal nulla con questo terzo full-length "0.00 Apocalypse".
Dopo aver ri-adorato "Psy Slam Damage" e aver ri-gustato per bene anche il primo "Fast-Slow Demolition", mi son armato di raggi laser, corazze bioniche ed ho affrontato questa apocalisse di nome e di fatto!
Quel che si nota fin da subito è la notevole pulizia adoperata alle chitarre, infatti rispetto al precedente cd ed a quello prima ancora, sentiremo un suono più solido e compatto capace di reggere meglio il tutto senza scivolare in cadute dovute all'inesperienza, nonostante ciò però sarà sempre bello pieno di medie anziché di basse, così da continuare a distinguersi in maniera ancor più efficacie dalla band slam di turno: per capirci meglio, i nostri si avvicinano di più al sound degli Abominable Putridity o dei Visceral Disgorge anziché a quello dei Guttural Slug o dei Kraanium. Se questo è un punto a favore o no giudicate voi, sicuramente è un vantaggio per coinvolgere più influenze nel proprio suond personale. Stessa cosa per quanto riguarda le pelli; nettamente più ridimensionate, ma non per questo verrà meno l'effetto "carro armato" visto nei precedenti capitoli.
Se su "Fast-Slow Demolition" li avevo ironicamente chiamati i Tony Danza dello slam sperimentale e invece su "Psy Slam Damage" mi ritrovo a parafrasarli come dei "confusionari ordinati", in questo "0.00 Apocalypse" il trio russo raggiunge una maturazione importante, presentando un disco variegato ed originale nell'insieme, con influenze mathcore, grazie al chitarrista Aleksey (uscito dalla formazione appena aver registrato quest'ultimo full), che vengono però ben nascoste dall'involucro slam e technical brutal sperimentale.
Doveroso citare però, la doppietta "Technofetishist", "Cyborg Kombat". Il primo avente uno degli episodi più alti di tutto il disco, mentre il secondo grazie all'intro, rappresenta una di quelle tamarrate futuristiche super nerd che ti fa raggiungere l'hype ancor prima di aver finito l'ascolto dell'album. Tutto il resto è semplice godimento avveniristico invece.
Come questi 7 H. Target si distinguono dalle band sopra citate?
Semplice. Qui stiamo parlando di una rara bellezza, di un raro gruppo che ha preso ciò che c'era di buono nello slam, l'ha mischiato con del materiale prettamente più moderno, ci ha aggiunto quel lato sperimental che oramai li contraddistingue fin dal primo album, giocando molto su armonici artificiali, cambi tempo e gutturali statici, quest'ultimi probabilmente il punto debole, ma non perché Konstantin non se la cavi bene, ma semplicemente perché è l'unica parte del gruppo ancorata al passato del genere.
(Tengo a sottolineare che tutta questa maturazione è avvenuta in soli 3 anni.)
Dire che i nostri abbiamo raggiunto la vetta però è difficile, questo "0.00 Apocalypse" mi ha sorpreso in modo assolutamente positivo, per cui non vedo perché non possano rifarlo l'anno prossimo o quando sarà.
Una cosa è certa, hanno idee da vendere e per farvi ben capire cosa intendo, basta ascoltare "5-94": dopo miriade di "play", non posso ancora credere che l'abbia concepita un'essere umano.
Per cui mettetevi tutti al riparo, perché gli alieni dell' "Innovative Psychotropic Brutal Death" (non mi chiedete cosa sia, l'ho ripreso dalla loro pagina facebook) son tornati pronti a maciullare cervelli radioattivi provenienti da cyborg-zombie futuristici!
